Jaber’s Cakes

Twelve-year-old Jaber knows a great deal about natural science and different kinds of fire. But a simple question troubles him: is the fire that burned people's homes the same fire used to bake cakes?

His question begins a journey towards understanding the difference between fire that destroys and fire that cooks food, warms people and brings benefit.

A young adult novel moving between anger, despair and hope, following hardship, struggle and adaptation while holding on to the possibility of continuing through dark times.
